About TYA Girls Basketball

Girls Basketball Overview

The Girls Basketball program is divided into four divisions:

  • Instructional (ages 7 & 8)
  • Intermediate (ages 9 & 10)
  • Minors (ages 11 to 13)
  • Majors (ages 14 to 18)

TYA Girls Age Eligibility Chart

Players are placed into the appropriate division based on their age as of September 15. Player evaluations are held in November. The season runs from December to March. Our goal is to help the girls learn how to play and love the game. They will improve their individual skills in all aspects of the sport but, more importantly, learn how to be part of a team and conduct themselves with confidence and pride. At the older levels, competition increases and the focus centers on team play and sportsmanship.

SEASON TIMELINE

Registration of players continues into mid-November. All leagues – except instructional --conduct player evaluations and then draft teams. Once the teams are formed, the league commissioner creates schedules. Typically, play starts in mid- to late-November. Traditionally, practices are held at the start of the season. Games will usually start in December; the season ends in early March.
