TSC Parents, Players, Coaches, and Managers:
The Towamencin Soccer Club (TSC) is proud to have recently signed on to EPYSA's "Putting Kids First Tryout Commitment Declaration." This means that TSC (along with many other soccer clubs in the state) will delay holding tryouts for all travel teams until May 1, 2020. Why are we taking this action? We believe this is a positive action for our club, and more importantly, for our kids. Over the last few years, we have all experienced the insanity -- and pressure -- of seeing travel team tryouts starting earlier and earlier (some local clubs started as early as January and February). These earlier tryouts created tremendous stress on our club's families and our young players.
While tryouts are always stressful, the idea of having all clubs do them in the same time frame should help everyone. It will also give back Spring development seasons. More importantly, it will not be as invasive to our young athletes who play multiple sports. Most teams will have completed their State Cups before tryouts and the majority of Spring league games will also be completed. It will also be less disruptive to our training schedule as teams are prepping for Cup games and Spring Showcase tournaments.
Any player that is looking to join one of our teams and reaches out to our coaches can still be invited to training sessions but those players MUST reach out to us. In our opinion, clubs that try to circumvent this agreement and "lock" players in prior to the May tryouts are doing a disservice to those players and are not doing what is best for their development. No one anticipates this being a perfect solution but in meeting with EPYSA and most of the reputable clubs in the state, we all agree that this will is a better way of handling tryouts.
We are all looking forward to the 2020 travel soccer season. If you have any questions or concerns about this directive, please email Jeff Hill (Soccer Director) at Hej4242@aol.com
