As we prepare for the opening of Registration for the 2020 Spring Hatfield-Towamencin Baseball season, we wanted to share some updates to the structure of our divisions for players of ages 4 through 12.
In recent years, we have been structured into 6 divisions (Quick Ball, Junior Midgets, Senior Midgets, Minors, Majors, and Senior Majors). After considerable review and conversation, the Baseball Executive Committee has decided to reduce the number of divisions to 5 and to rename them to conform to common conventions used in the broader Youth Baseball community.
Starting with the upcoming Spring 2020 season, we will offer the following divisions:
Quick-Ball - An introductory, noncompetitive league intended primarily for first and second year players (typically ages 4, 5 or 6).
A - Coach Pitch – (aka “Single-A Division”) A noncompetitive league intended for youngsters in their second or third year of playing baseball (6 and 7 years old).
AA - Player Pitch - (aka “Double-A Division”) A fully competitive league, this division is intended primarily for players entering their first season of competitive play. This division is primarily comprised of 9-year olds, with some more experienced 8-year olds and less experienced 10-year olds as well.
Minors - A fully competitive league, this division is intended primarily for players ages 9 and 10 with one or more years of competitive experience.
Majors - A fully competitive league, this league is intended primarily for players ages 11 and 12 with several years of competitive experience and who have demonstrated a significant level of skill and knowledge of the game.
More complete details of each division can be found in this document <link>.
We recognize some confusion may arise, particularly among families that have been with the program for many years. In the long run, these changes better prepare us for the baseball world in which we now find ourselves. Please reach out to any member of the Executive Committee if you have questions or concerns.
